Lisbon wrestlers competing in college
My hometown of Lisbon, Iowa has seven former wrestlers competing in college. All of these wrestlers competed for Hall of Fame coach Brad Smith who retired at the end of last season. Coach Smith is the most successful coach in Iowa High School wrestling history.
Cael Happel (Lisbon Class of 2020) is a junior at UNI this season. Happel is the starter at 141 for the third straight season. He qualified for the NCAA National Championships the last two years.
Happel won the Daktronics Open in Brookings, South Dakota on November 19. After a major decision followed by a tech fall in the semifinals, Happel pinned Zach Redding of Iowa State in 3:54 to win the 141 lbs. title.
Happel is currently ranked #9 in the country at 141 by InterMat.
Happel will next compete at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Friday and Saturday, December 1-2.
Cobe Siebrecht (Class of 2019) is a redshirt junior at the University of Iowa. Last season Siebrecht qualified for the 2023 NCAA National Championships at 157 lbs. Siebrecht will not be competing this season and will be ready to go next year.
Cade Siebrecht (Class of 2022) is a redshirt freshman at the University of Iowa competing at 149. He placed third at the Luther Open and has a 4-1 record.
Lincoln Holub (Class of 2022) is a sophomore at Central College at 157 lbs.
Brandon Paez (Class of 2023) is a freshman at UNI. He won the 125 lbs. title at the Grand View Open and placed fifth at the Daktronics Open.
Wyatt Smith (Class of 2023) is a freshman at Coe College. He placed third at Hwt in the Silver division at the Luther Open and placed third at the Coe Invite.
Indy Harbaugh (Class of 2023) is a freshman at Coe College at 149 lbs.
I will be following the career of Lisbon wrestlers competing at the college level right here on my new blog.
