Happel and Siebrecht honored at reception

A reception was held Friday at Elite Stone in Lisbon, Iowa to honor Cael Happel and Cobe Siebrecht. Happel and Siebrecht are Lisbon grads and just completed their college wrestling careers.

Cael was a four-time NCAA National Qualifier (2022, ‘23, ‘24, and ‘25) at 141 lbs. for the UNI Panthers.

Happel placed fifth at 141 at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships to become the third Lisbon wrestler to be a Division I All American and the first four-time D-I NCAA Qualifier.

Happel won the 2025 141 lbs. Big 12 title.

In 2022 Happel was named First Team Academic All-Big-12 and recently named as a 2025 NWCA Academic All American.

Cael was the 28th four-time state champion (2017-2020) in Iowa High School history for Lisbon with a 217-5 career record. He was named as the 2020 Bob Steenlage Iowa High School Wrestler of the Year and was also a two-time Fargo All-American.

Cael will graduate with a degree in Finance in May and was recently named as the Director of Operation for UNI Wrestling.

Siebrecht began his college career at Iowa where he was a 2023 NCAA National Qualifier.

This past season Siebrecht competed for South Dakota State where he was a 2025 NCAA National Qualifier at 157.

After Nationals Siebrecht had hip surgery for an ongoing issue. Surgery was delayed to get through the season.

At Nationals Siebrecht pinned the #4 seed in Consolations. That is even more impressive factoring in his injury.

Siebrecht was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2022-24 at Iowa and was recently recognized as a 2025 NWCA Academic All American at South Dakota State.

At Iowa Siebrecht graduated with a degree in Enterprise Leadership and a Masters in Sports and Recreational Management. At South Dakota State he graduated with a certificate in Real Estate.

Siebrecht was a three-time state finalist and a 2019 1A state champion at 138.

At Lisbon Happel and Siebrecht competed for Hall of Fame coach Brad Smith. The Lions won the 1A state title in 2017 and 2018 with Happel and Siebrecht leading the way.

This was a great event to be a part of. The tradition of wrestling runs deep in Lisbon. There was a great turnout and a lot of Lisbon pride.

It is great to have two wrestlers from Lisbon compete at the Division I level in wrestling that are also successful in academics.

Congratulations to Cael Happel and Cobe Siebrecht on your outstanding wrestling career.

Thank you for all of the great entertainment you provided over the years.

Go Lions!
